Word Rhythm
Yorùbá + KJV
The Open Yoruba Contemporary Bible and the King James Version on one screen — four display modes, red letter in both texts, fully offline.
Four daily slots: morning, day, evening, and the before-bed devotional. Sleep Audio (gentle nighttime reading + background sounds)
Word Rhythm: Yorùbá + KJV is a free, offline Bible that carries two texts: the Open Yoruba Contemporary Bible (OYCB) and the King James Version. Not two apps, not two tabs — two translations placed against each other, verse by verse.
For anyone who reads Yorùbá at home and studies in English, or who wants to see how a familiar verse reads in both: one setting decides which text you see, and every screen follows that decision.
Everything inside
Two texts, one screen
- Four display modes: Yorùbá only, KJV only, Yorùbá first, KJV first
- Switch modes from the reading menu — the choice is remembered and applied everywhere
- Bilingual modes stack the two texts in portrait: primary translation first, the other below it
- On tablets, landscape phones and unfolded foldables the two texts can sit side by side in parallel columns, and you can swap which one is on the left
- Highlights, notes, bookmarks, favourites and search results all render in the mode you chose
- Reading plans follow the same rule — a plan’s chapters look like the reader, not a third style
Red letter in both texts
The words of Christ are red in the KJV, and independently marked in the Yorùbá text — the Yorùbá spans are generated from the quotation marks in the OYCB itself, not copied from the KJV’s character positions, which point at different words in a different language.
- 2,045 of the 2,056 verses the KJV marks as speech are covered in Yorùbá (99.46%)
- Eight of the rest are verses the OYCB does not contain; three are deliberately left unmarked where the text has no clear speech boundary
- In parallel columns each column is coloured from its own data, so a KJV range can never bleed into a Yorùbá line
The whole Bible, offline
- All 66 books in both translations, stored on your device
- Nothing to download, nothing to sign in to, no connection required — read on a plane, underground, or with no airtime
- The KJV runs to 31,102 verses; the OYCB carries 31,087
- For the 15 verses the modern Yorùbá text omits, Yorùbá-only mode shows [not in the Yorùbá text] instead of quietly substituting the KJV
Search that forgives missing tone marks
- Type plain “Olorun” and find “Ọlọ́run” — tone marks and underdots are optional
- Combine words with AND, OR, NOT and NEAR, or search an exact phrase
- Restrict a search to a book or a range of books
- Results render in your display mode, red letter included
Read, study, keep
- Highlights, bookmarks, notes and tags — each entry follows your display mode
- Verse memorisation with typed and blanked practice
- Daily reading plans, from a book at a time to the whole Bible
- Devotional cards: a short message, a reflection and a guided prayer
- Find Scripture by feeling, by life situation, by topic, or from the 100 most-searched verses
- Reading streaks and progress, kept quietly in the background
Share it as text, a picture, or a video
- Send a verse as text, as an image card, or as a short video in your own setting
- Choose either translation or both — the display mode travels with the share
- Every Yorùbá share carries the attribution its licence requires
- Home-screen widgets for the verse of the day, your favourites and Sleep Audio
Listen — read-aloud and Sleep Audio
- Text-to-speech playback of the passage you are reading
- The KJV reads with an English voice; Yorùbá playback depends on whether your device offers a Yorùbá voice — where it does not, the app does not pretend to
- Sleep Audio: gentle bedtime narration with quiet ambient sound, downloadable over Wi-Fi for offline listening
- Playback continues with the screen off
Bible Insights
Verse statistics, keyword trends and Bible facts, clearly labelled as built on the KJV corpus. They are study aids about the text, not a third translation.
What stays in English
The app interface is English, and so are devotional reflections, reading-plan notes and audio meditations. That is a deliberate editorial decision while the Yorùbá devotional corpus is being reviewed, not a missing translation.
Two translations, one screen — and after the first launch, no connection needed.
