This Privacy Policy applies only to the mobile app identified below.

The identifiers in this policy should match the Google Play store listing for this app, including the app name, developer name, legal entity, and package name.

Igbo + KJV (“we”, “our”, or “the App”) values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use our mobile application.

The App carries two translations: the Biblica Open Igbo Contemporary Bible (OICB, © 1980, 1988, 2019, 2020 Biblica, Inc., used under CC BY-SA 4.0) and the King James Version (public domain). Both texts ship inside the App, so reading a verse never sends it to us or to anyone else.

1. Information We Collect

a) Reading Data (Local Storage & Backup)

The App stores your reading data and preferences locally on your device. This includes the display mode you chose (Igbo, KJV, Igbo first, or KJV first), reading position and history, search history, highlights, bookmarks, favourites, notes, tags, memorization progress, reading-plan progress, and app settings.

If you sign in with Google and turn backup on, this data is saved to your personal Google Drive account using the Google Drive AppData folder (drive.appdata scope). Backup is off by default. An optional weekly automatic backup runs only after you enable it, and it waits for Wi-Fi before sending anything.

The App:

  • Only accesses its own AppData folder.
  • Cannot view or access other files in your Google Drive.
  • Does not modify any unrelated files.

The backup file contains your reading data and settings. It does not contain the Bible text, which is already part of the App. Backup data remains under your control within your Google account. If you never enable backup, none of this data leaves your device.

b) Analytics & Crash Reporting (Opt-In)

The App uses Google Firebase to improve stability and the reading experience. Both are off by default and stay off until you agree:

  • Usage Analytics (Firebase Analytics): Collects anonymous data about how you use the app (for example which screens and features you open). This helps us understand usage trends and improve the app.
  • Crash Reports (Firebase Crashlytics): Collects anonymous reports when the app crashes, including stack traces and device state information, to help us fix bugs.

On first launch the App asks for your consent; nothing is reported unless you allow it. Both can be turned off again at any time in Settings → Other (“Usage analytics” and “Crash reports”). With them off, the App keeps working exactly as before.

c) Advertising

The App is free and uses Google AdMob to display advertisements (banner and native ads). Ads allow us to offer the App for free.

AdMob may automatically collect certain information — in both current and future versions of the App — to serve and measure ads, including:

  • Advertising ID (e.g., GAID)
  • Approximate (coarse) location, derived from sources such as your IP address or nearby network information
  • Device information (model, operating system, language, screen size)
  • IP address
  • App usage and interaction data (ad impressions and clicks)

Future versions of the App may continue to share coarse (approximate) location with AdMob, alongside the information listed above. We update this policy and the app’s Google Play Data safety disclosure before any new category of information is collected.

This information is used to provide personalized or non-personalized advertisements in accordance with Google’s policies and your consent choices (managed via Google’s User Messaging Platform, and changeable at any time under Settings → Privacy Options).

Rewarded ads are optional. Some longer devotional collections can be opened for one day after you choose to watch a short rewarded ad. Watching is never required for Bible reading, search or sharing.

For more information, please visit: Google Privacy Policy

d) In-App Purchases

The App currently offers no in-app purchases: it is free to read, supported by ads. If purchases are introduced in a future version, they will be processed by Google Play Billing; we do not collect or store payment information, and this policy will be updated first.

e) Device Permissions

The App asks for a permission only when a feature needs it:

  • Microphone: voice search, and the soundtrack of a verse video you record yourself. Speech recognition is handled by the speech service on your device; a video you record stays on your device until you choose to share it.
  • Camera: recording a verse video. It is used only while you are recording, and only if you start that feature. Sharing a verse as an image uses the system picker and needs no camera access.
  • Notifications: reading-plan reminders, Take a Break reminders and devotional reminders. These reminders are scheduled on your device; no notification content is pushed from our servers.
  • Location: the App itself never asks for your location and declares no location permission. Any approximate location AdMob receives is derived from your IP address and is used only to serve ads, as described above.

2. How We Use Information

Information is used to:

  • Save your reading progress, display mode and preferences.
  • Enable backup and restore functionality (only if you turn backup on).
  • Display advertisements (to support the free version).
  • Analyze usage trends to improve app features (only if you opt in).
  • Detect, diagnose, and fix crashes to maintain app stability (only if you opt in).

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

Information may be processed by third-party service providers:

  • Google AdMob: For advertising services.
  • Google Firebase: For analytics (Firebase Analytics) and crash reporting (Firebase Crashlytics), only after you consent.
  • Google Drive: For user-initiated backup (data remains in your Google account).

Each of these services operates under its own privacy policy.

One exception is not a third party at all: when you share a verse, the Igbo text travels with the attribution required by its licence (Biblica® Open Igbo Contemporary Bible™ © 1980, 1988, 2019, 2020 Biblica, Inc., CC BY-SA 4.0). Whatever you send, you send yourself, to an app you picked.

4. Your Choices & Controls

We believe you should control your data:

  • Usage Analytics / Crash Reports: Off until you agree; toggle on or off any time in Settings → Other.
  • Advertising Privacy:
    • GDPR/UK users: Use Settings → Privacy Options to manage consent for ad personalization.
    • All users: Reset your Advertising ID or opt out of personalized ads via your device system settings (Settings → Google → Ads).
  • Google Drive access: Revoke the App’s Drive access at any time through your Google Account permissions.
  • Search history: Clear it from the search screen at any time.
  • Local data: Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.

5. Data Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect user data.

  • Local data is stored in the app’s private sandbox.
  • Backup data is stored in your own Google Drive AppData folder and is not publicly accessible.
  • Analytics and crash data are transmitted securely (HTTPS) and are anonymized.

6. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected by revising the “Effective Date” at the top of this policy.
